Lamprey family petromyzonidae.

There are two main species, the sea lamprey, petromyzon marinus, which comes into the rivers to spawn, and lampetra fluviatilis, the river lamprey, sometimes called lampern.

In appearance these are greenish eel-like fish but with a circular sucker-shaped mouth.

In the case of the sea lamprey the latter is used to attach the parasite to the flanks of other fish off, whom it lives untill the death of the host.

There is some doubt as to wether the smaller river lamprey exests in this fashion,at least entirely.
